About Acme Air Conditioning & Heating

Jason Baker, Acme A/C & Heating Owner

Jason Baker, owner of Acme Air Conditioning & Heating, is an HVAC master-licensed contractor who specializes in installing well-designed, optimized HVAC systems, as well as trouble-shooting challenging HVAC malfunctions. Acme works with Mitsubishi variable capacity ducted and ductless systems. They also have the honor of being a Mitsubichi Electric Preferred Diamond Dealer.

Acme AC & Heating has earned the trust of the Austin area over decades. Though the company was founded by his father, Chester Baker, in 1954 as Baker A/C & Heating, Jason has owned and operated the shop for over 35 years—he even has a handful of clients from those early days, including one client who began with the shop when Jason was just 10 years old! Even then, he and his father talked often about how much service matters. HVAC may not be the most glamorous job, but taking care of people’s basic need for safe, comfortable shelter is important work—and it’s work that’s worth doing right. The company name was changed in July of 1999 to Acme Air Conditioning & Heating. Acme’s proud to have maintained a 5-star rating over the years, but nothing is more encouraging than getting holiday cards from families. To Jason, that’s when you know you’re really hitting the mark.

Jason grew up in the field, but had a deep interest in engineering and computers, and took on some engineering coursework after graduating high school. This background in engineering set him up perfectly as he stepped into leadership of the company, because many of the newest systems began to have more complex, computerized designs. This love for engineering is also why he enjoys specialty designs, unusual applications, you name it—Acme can find a solution for your interesting problem.

As a contractor and business owner, Jason takes pride in creating a company environment that works well for employees and customers alike. He personally trains every member of his team—they’re never hired straight from school and set loose without oversight. He prioritizes the health and protection of his employees and their families, guarding safety standards and work hours while providing quality services for clients so that everyone wins.

On top of Acme’s 5-star work with traditional HVAC solutions, there is a lot of energy around variable capacity Inverter systems right now. These units are high efficiency, exceeding normal unit efficiencies by up to 50%. Acme has designed a variable ductless system for a home on the Green Homes Tour, and the owner posted her electric bill for the whole year afterward, and never paid more than the minimum! Variable systems can provide greater comfort with lower utility bills. Ductless solutions ultimately offer the best zoning possibilities. In the Texas heat, most families know that it takes a lot of work to keep two floors running at comfortable temps. Too often, when you feel good upstairs, you’ll need a sweater downstairs. By adding an individual unit in a master bedroom, for example, homeowners get to create a zone that runs independently of the ducted system. Acme offers both wired and wireless control options for ducted and ductless systems alike. Plus, as a Mitsubishi product Preferred Diamond Dealer, Acme is able to register for the 12-year parts warranty on the systems, meaning more years of longevity and service for the unit and parts. Our Bosch inverter systems provide a 10 year parts warranty with registration.

Acme also specializes in high quality ionizers and PHI devices. Indoor air quality can have a huge effect on our quality of life. While IAQ is very important, a lot of store-bought ionizers and filtration systems are mostly marketing gimmicks. We sell IAQ devices by RGF, which are designed to improve the air quality in your home and have a proven track record of doing just that.

Jason lives in Austin with his wife Anna Elisa and three kiddos. Together they travel often and love camping, snorkeling, scuba diving, and dancing. Around the neighborhood, he’s known for being a vault of weird information, especially around construction and cleaning topics.
